چکیده

This paper introduces an eecient le directory structure which provides for parallel retrieval of documents. The directory structure is based on the M-B-T directory structure. The M-B-T directory structure is compatible with current automatic retrieval and query processing techniques. Weights that are assigned to index terms can be included in the directory with the terms at no additional cost. In addition, it provides for indexing a secondary attribute within a primary attribute with no additional cost. Updates are achieved with a high degree of eeciency as well. It is shown that this structure achieves a better overall performance than inverted les, standard B-trees, and other directory structures. The parallel organization of M-B-T directory improves considerably the performance of the directory. Given a p-processor massively parallel computer, our organization allows a maximum of p retrievals to be performed concurrently and thus achieves an approximate speed up of p in the best case.

Hierarchical Bit-Map Directory Schemes on the RDT Interconnection Network for a Massively Parallel Processor JUMP-1

JUMP-1 is currently under development by seven Japanese universities to establish techniques of an e cient distributed shared memory on a massively parallel processor. It provides a memory coherency control scheme called the hierarchical bit-map directory to achieve cost e ective and high performance management of the cache memory. Messages for maintaining cache coherency are transferred throug...

Object Directory Design for a Fully Distributed Persistent Object System

In large persistent object systems it is possible to have many million (or eventually billion or more) objects in existence. These objects must be managed to enable their e ective and convenient use. At the heart of this management problem is the structure which maintains information about the objects and provides services on the objects using the information it maintains. We refer to this stru...

Hardware Support for Data Dependence Speculation in Distributed Shared-Memory Multiprocessors Via Cache-block Reconciliation

Data dependence speculation allows a compiler to relax the constraint of data-independence to issue tasks in parallel, increasing the potential for automatic extraction of parallelism from sequential programs. This paper proposes hardware mechanisms to support a data-dependence speculative distributed shared-memory (DDSM) architecture that enable speculative parallelization of programs with irr...
